TONIGHT Heady experimental e-jamz at Tea Haus: Erik Deluca, Ami Dang, Slag Ralden

Despite this awesomely dreary day, there is a reason to get out of your pajamas (for those of us, shall we say, underemployed). Yes, Virginia, there is experimental music and it is at the Tea Bazaar.

DEN is the project of the wonderful Erik Deluca, UVA music grad who has been playing out a bunch in the past six months, which is absolutely wonderful. Erik’s breadth is wide, and I’m not sure what he’s planning tonight. Overall, his sound relies a lot on the slowing down of material, then collecting the aural landscape to use as a palette for original production. His soundcloud page is one of my favorites right now(along with The Bugle). Expect slow and beautiful jams.

Ami Dang is based out of Baltimore (so no doubt James will provide an anecdotal comment about her (and the show’s poster (which he made (and it looks great)))) and does material synthesizing North Indian classical with the glitchy, one-eye-on-the-1990s aesthetics we’ve come to love from Baltimore. She’s also associated with Grimes, opening for her tour and doing some back-up vocals. I’m having trouble embedded a track from here, but check it out here. Sounds cool! Should be interesting to check out.

Also on the bill is a low-key fellow going by Slag Ralden. Quiet, chillwave vocal stuff.

Show starts at 9pm at the Tea Bazaar and is $5

Ami and Zach are both very cool musicians, and also, having lived with them for the past month, I can tell you they are both very cool people. Also, I will be making a surprise appearance in the audience at this show. Excited to finally hear Erik’s new thing!
