This show has been canceled. In true Dylan Mulshine fashion.

(the title of this post, and some of the content below, is taken verbatim from an e-mail dylan sent me. He has quite the way with aesthetics (which I love) and this will also reflect the kind of show this will be better than a written description. However, per expectations of this website, I will also provide a written description

Tonight is a super wild show that looks really exciting. If you’re a clammy-handed NOVA transplant who will carry middle-class, restrictive super-ego mental technology for the rest of your mediocre life, you don’t have to worry about attending tonight (I know you worry a lot). It’s a Dylan Mulshine show, which means it will make you real uncomfortable. I was about to type “in the nicest of ways” but that’s not true. Here are the hashtags he (and so many other people) unnecessarily included in a non-Twitter format:

#no #fucks #given #loud #minimal #maximal
#obvious #abstract #harsh #climax
#wave #broken #virginia
#trip #metal #trust #me

The “trust me” refers to the fact that I’m pretty sure Dylan made up the genre ‘trip metal’ to hop on the coattails of ‘trap music’ but, listen, I don’t know why I’m being so cynical because I do think this will be a great show.

OBATALA¬†is an experimental music project with Dylan, Adam Smith and Monika Khot. Monika is a newcomer to playing music here, studies computer music at UVA, plays with Ha-Rang. Adam Smith plays in Y’ALL and Great Dads.

Close Your Eyes I’m Changing¬†(great name) and Flesh Control are both from Richmond and will give great power in their unleashed performances. Meaning, I haven’t heard them, but their material is below!

Close Your Eyes I’m Changing:

Flesh Control:

Show starts at 9pm at the Tea Bazaar, bring $5

Can’t wait for this experimental noise acid-rock to come raging through the floor boards tonight. I’ll have to cancel scrabble night with Tiff and Raymond…

the phrase “trip metal” comes from an interview that John Olson of Wolf Eyes did back in December, in which he haughtily declared “Noise Music Is Over.” when asked, if that was the case, how he would describe his own music, Olson responded “Trip Metal.”

it’s unclear to what degree he was kidding, but the whole thing became an internet-joke among noiseniks more or less instantly, with everyone facetiously / sarcastically referring to their music as “trip metal” basically just to make fun of John Olson and that interview.

Which Olson has completely latched onto/doubled-down on, as he posts about trip metal constantly, which is both funny and way overblown, as most of his stuff is. Good dude too.

Crazy Jim seems like he might be totally sincere about Trip Metal.

out of curiousity (if it’s fit for public discussion), what happened to this TB show?

    *curiosity, even

james-the richmond bands cancelled for some reason, probably because we booked this show a day before it happened and they planned for the event it wouldn’t happen.

rob dobson texted me at 8:15 on Monday to say that adam and monika were still practicing and I assumed dylan forgot to tell them it was cancelled. I texted dylan and he said that he didn’t tell them and that it was a joke.

I called adam who assured me that he knew it was cancelled and that dylan was punking me.

    dylan then texted me “jk”.

that trip metal is ruining the moral fiber of the kids in charlottesville! BECAUSE IT HAS NO RULES

and i still think it’s an accidental, slant reference to trap music and jim and dylan are doubling down. itsa conspiracy yall
