Love letters // Metronomy

OK, so it may just be my love of contradiction that chose this song…but a famous music blog disparaged this album today when I’d really liked it. The postman who hand-delivers my mail to the shop each day has often lamented the deteriorating quality of what he carries, and it’s a fact that aside from bills and unwanted solicitations to spend money (you don’t have), it’s rare to receive a postcard from an exotic location and even more a love letter. So, let’s console ourselves with this nostalgic-but-cheerful song, and be encouraged to get out the writing paper. Give the postmen something other than bills to carry. To your pens!

Here’s the video directed by Michel Gondry:

Ed. Note: Melody Supreme, located at 115 4th St. SE off the Downtown Mall, is Charlottesville’s best record store. The owner Gwen Berthy has impeccable taste and a curatorial hunger matched by few. One of my favorite parts of the store is Gwen’s handwritten notes on records. Le DISQUE DU LUNDI is Gwen’s online version of those recommendation gems–posted on Nailgun and available for purchase at Melody Supreme.
