DISQUE DU LUNDI — Ceci n’est pas un disque

January 27th, 2014 · No Comments · By

Today there will be no ‘DISQUE (record) du Lundi’; I’d rather talk about a film, and a single song. This morning I was reading an article on one of the most beautiful films I’ve seen in a long time, in terms of inventive cinematography and writing. This film by Leos Carax takes me back to my youth, in Paris, and to Bowie. It takes me back to the incredible choreography of Denis Lavant in the movie Mauvais Sang (The Night Is Young) (1986). So, from the soundtrack of this magnificent film, I give you the ‘CHANSON (song) du Lundi’: Bowie’s ‘Modern Love’. Happy Monday, everyone.

Ed. Note: Melody Supreme, located at 115 4th St. SE off the Downtown Mall, is Charlottesville’s best record store. The owner Gwen Berthy has impeccable taste and a curatorial hunger matched by few. One of my favorite parts of the store is Gwen’s handwritten notes on records. DISQUE DU LUNDI is Gwen’s online version of those recommendation gems–posted on Nailgun and available at Melody Supreme.
