TWO SHOWS with two great local bands tonight

Great show at Magnolia tonight, including one of my favorite local bands.

Miami Nights is a wall-of-sound stoner/doom metal band from Charlottesville who RULE/SHRED/ETC. They have stacks of amps and Maxx Katz’s sick vocals. They played Tea Bazaar at the beginning of the summer with Great Dads and I was seriously impressed by their show.

And, two bands from Philly: first is Gondola, who, according to their Facebook page, play “hard and heavy rock and roll.” And there’s Company Corvette, who similarly play a form of psychedelic hard rock.

As the best shows always promise, tonight there will be RIFFS A-PLENTY as well as HEADBANGING and ROCKIN’ OUT.

And, it has just come to my attention that there is another show tonight featuring Dwight Howard Johnson, a local pop-punk band who just released an excellent debut LP called Take Anything on C’ville label WarHen Records. It will take place on the roof of the Live Arts building for the Brews with a View party. DHJ have also just been asked to open for Pissed Jeans at the Southern next month as well.

the self-applied “hard rock” descriptors made me wary, but Company Corvette and Gondola were both fuckin’ great. excellent stoner-metal riffage.
