Diarrhea Planet, Invisible Hand, DHJ at theTea Bazaar tonight

The first thing you need to know about Diarrhea Planet is that they rep Tennessee hard. At a show, one of their guitarists longingly mistook my “Virginia” shirt for a “Vanderbilt” University shirt. They reside on Nashville’s solid Infinity Cat label where they tweet at label-mates Jeff the Brotherhood about Nashville. Their band bio is “Nashville baby.” Tennessee should be proud to be home to such a rowdy band.

I caught them opening for (read: showing up) Titus Andronicus last summer at Strange Matter and immediately fell in love with their driven, sludgy, three-headed guitar attack. Gushing with fraternal love and unabashed enthusiasm, they tore through a shit-kicking set that included a cover of Jurassic Park‘s orchestral overture. Diarrhea Planet is dedicated to having a grand ol’ time and they want everyone to know it because they are louder than all hell. Bring your earplugs and a dumb grin to wear.

Rounding out the bill are two of my favorite local bands, The Invisible Hand and Dwight Howard Johnson. “The Hand” are getting ready to head out on tour so lets give them a proper sendoff. DHJ writes songs that are perpetually stuck in my head. Be warned, their songs get lodged in your skull.
