Ami Dang

Ami Dang is a sitarist, vocalist, and producer from Baltimore, Maryland and New Delhi, India. Her sound ranges from North Indian classical fused with ambient electronics to experimental dancepop, coming together in a genre that she calls “Bollywave.” She plays at the Tea Bazaar tonight. This week’s Feedback column in the C-Ville Weekly features an interview with Dang in which she talks about studying sitar in India and technology in music at Oberlin.

Charlottesville-based musicians Loren Oppenheimer, John D’Earth and Chris Dammon of the Taalim School of Indian Music will open the show.

To get yourself psyched, watch this video for her song “Where Nothing Grows.”

The shows costs $5 and doors are at 8:30pm.

Oh and, Piedmont Council for the Arts is giving away a pair of tickets to the show. To enter, “Like” their Facebook page by noon today. They’ll pick a winner at random from the new fans (or whatever Facebook is calling it these days) after that.
