Briana Marela, Nelly Kate, and Errantry at the Tea Bazaar

May 29th, 2012 · No Comments · By

There is a pleasant-sounding show at Tea Bazaar this evening.

Briana Marela hails from the Pacific Northwest and her music reflects fragments of other acts from (or at least on labels from) that region like Mount Eerie, LAKE, Tender Forever, Woelv, and Lucky Dragons. Marela’s songs join looping effects, a drum machine, and synthesizers with old-fashioned singing to create soft and sincere pop music. You can hear songs from her debut record Speak From Your Heart here.

Here is a video of Marela performing one of the songs from that record live in 2011:

Richmond, VA’s own Nelly Kate Anderson will also perform. An interdisciplinary artist, Anderson’s instruments can include typewriters, old keyboards, and homemade music boxes. Listen to songs from her most recent record Ish Ish here. You can also see photos and videos of the release party in March for Ish Ish over here courtesy of RVA Magazine.

Opening the concert will be Errantry, a solo project from local musician Scott Ritchie. His music incorporates guitar and bass loops to create minimalist compositions.

Doors are at 8:30pm and tickets cost $5.
