a Record Fair and some Shows

There’s a Record Fair happening in town today — I’d kind of forgotten about it (thought it was next week!) until some folks reminded me about it at the show last night.  It’s happening at the Holiday Inn on 29the one right next to Milan (the delicious Indian place), North of Barracks / 250 but South of Hydraulic; it’s kind of right across from that old Kroger (not the Kroger in Barracks Rd, the one a quarter-mile north). The flyer says “Admission Free! • Buy-Sell-Trade • Rare Vinyl Albums and 45s, CDs, DVDs, Memorabilia.” It’s been running since 10am and lasts til 4pm.

Later on tonight, there’s some shows that maybe be of interest:

Matt Northrup is playing at the Tea Bazaar with Golden Glasses. Golden Glasses is Steve Snider, drummer of 1 million local indie-rock / hardcore / math-rock / art-metal bands, playing solo; he percusses and sings and it’s really fun. One of the best drummers in town, and worth seeing under any circumstances. Matt Northrup is from Greensboro, he does the Dustin Wong guitar-loop-pedal thing, he played some fun shows in town last year, with Great Dads at the Tea House and (I think?) with DrumsLikeMachineGuns at Magnolia. I’ve also just heard that he’s apparently moving to Charlottesville and taking over the show booking reigns from Tea House music guy / Nailgun contributor Jacob (who’s now living in NY), so that’s cool. I hung out with Matt after the show he played in August and he seemed like a good dude.

There’s also a show at House Magnolia with Last Words and Mad Dog (both hardcore bands from Raleigh, I think) and Firetrucks (locals from here). Maurine reminds us “bring money for bands, etc.” You know how house shows work. (I had also listed another show happening there tonight on our calendar, due to a typo — that one’s on the 14th, next Wednesday.)

hm… I thought that PantherBurn show happening back on February 25th? was last night’s gig part of the “County-Wide Kick-Off” thing?

Hi! Just to clarify a bit about the County Wide Kick Off events, each artist has a listening party at Blue Moon first, and then has the album release at The Southern a few weeks later. All the listening parties and release shows are party of County Wide’s kick off : )
