Grits & Gravy, JB / Xmas edition

December 15th, 2011 · No Comments · By

There’s another Grits & Gravy event at The Box tonight; these are always a lot of fun, so I’m excited about this one.

One of the reasons that I’m excited — apart from the obvious, the fact that Robin Tomlin and Colin Powell are swell dudes with excellent taste in Soul & Funk vinyl — is that they’ve asked me to be their “opening act” tonight, so I’ll be bringing out the high points of my Soul, R&B, Motown, and Doo-Wop records to spin for the first part of the set.

I’ll start around 10pm, Colin and Robin will take over after that, and we’ll keep going ’til last call at 2am. Colin says: “As this is the 5th anniversary of the death of James Brown, expect a pretty high concentration of JB and JB-affiliated stuff AND a few Christmas-y things.” Other than that, it’s the same details as always: 21+, no cover charge.
