Those Darlins & Infinite Jets (Win Tickets!) – plus a Magnolia show

Those Darlins are playing at The Southern tonight, with locals Infinite Jets opening;

Those Darlins are some well-respected tough-chick country-rockers from Nashville; although they kind of remind me of a range of 80’s LA bands; a fair amount of X, a little bit of the Go-Go’s, but more slow and southern. The bits I’ve heard have made me want to hear more.

Infinite Jets are the relatively new-ish local group of some of my favorite Cville rockers; led by Matt Bierce of Drunk Tigers and Drew Carroll of Red Satellites, backed by the super-solid rhythm section Scott Ritchie (Articulate Chewbacca) and Greg Sloan (the Ha-Rang), with a secret-weapon third(!) guitar player in the form of Dave Stone (Tapeworms / Fingerpainters). They’re really fun, and have only played a half-dozen gigs or so (although reportedly they’re hard at work recording); should be a really solid show.

Tickets are $10, BUT you have a chance to win a pair of them by emailing us (with your stated purpose in the subject line; “Darlins/Jets tickets” or something along those lines) in the next few hours. We’ll announce a winner at 6pm, and the doors at the Southern open at 8:00.

Also, I’ve just been notified of a last-minute show at The Magnolia House; it’s been described to me as “Avante-Cabaret and Experimental Rock by women-fronted bands from New York;” specifically Little Band of Sailors and Dream Zoo; local act Books and the End of Books is (are?) opening (headlining?). That’s at 8pm; bring a few bucks for the touring bands!

    OK, I admit it! None of that stuff was really Thomas Jefferson. Declaration of Independence, Third President of the US, founding of the University, the whole Sally Hemmings situation; it was me, all along!

    (The Louisiana Purchase was actually him, though.)
