Grits & Gravy / WTJU Marathon

May 12th, 2011 · 2 Comments · By

Robin and Colin are doing another Grits&Gravy gig at The Box tonight:

Should be really fun. Y’all know them by now, right? Solid dudes (both from WTJU) who play awesome old 60s & 70’s Soul & Funk tunes, all on vinyl… it’s a good time, for sure.

And speaking of WTJU … I’d like to take the opportunity to remind you that the annual Folk Marathon Fundraiser is going on right now!  It started on Monday morning and continues through Sunday night… there’s some great stuff on the schedule: for instance, “the Songs of Johnny Cash” show just started. I’m pretty excitied by some of the other shows coming up as well…  for instance, a show of Neil Young covers, Brazilian Guitar, several shows of Dylan covers in various genres (it’s Dylan’s 70th birthday), music of the Sufis, Slide Guitar, and especially Scott Shissler’s Hawaiian music show!

You can check out the full schedule here (it’s printed as a list, but you can also download a pdf in chart form)… and in case there’s a show you missed earlier in the week, like the Folk Punk show, the Soul Safari, or Psyche-Folk, you can go back and listen to those in the WTJU online Vaults (they’ll only be up for two weeks, so check ’em out soon). Also, don’t forget that it’s a fundraiser, so grab that checkbook and help support essential and endangered independent radio!
