good show at Al-Hamraa tonight!

There’s another show at Al-Hamraa tonight (that’s the Morroccan restaurant in the Ix Building…).  Blair Amberly of SpeakerTree Records put it together, so it should be a really solid line-up.

The Headliners are Charlottesville’s own Borrowed Beams of Light, aka the power-pop side-project of Adam Brock (from Invisible Hand, Nice Jenkins, etc), backed by members of the Hand and Corsair. They’re a much-beloved act here in town (especially from the folks at WTJU) but they don’t play live shows very often, so tonight’s a good chance to catch them while you can.

They’re playing with three touring bands from Michigan (Ypsilanti / Detroit); Blair says Secret Twins are a “super awesome up-and coming two piece with beautiful female voclas – check the video(s) on this myspace link)” — I’ve also heard a lot of really good thinks about City Center (their recent split with Grouper was pretty great).

Lastly there’s a new act called Swimsuit; Blair adds: “I am particularly excited about Swimsuit since I will be releasing their debut LP as the second release for speakertree.  I have just received all of the mastered songs for the record and they are AWESOME.  Its definitely got an early feelies / post-punk vibe (and some bush tetras influence) – perfectly chiming (even dancing) guitars, murkier hard-to-pin-down drum work and some of the greatest layered female (and male) vocals i have heard in awhile…” You may recall that the other record that SpeakerTree has put out so far was the Cloud Nothings debut album, so the label is pretty much batting .1000 so far.

The show is at 8pm; not sure about the cover charge or whatever, but I’m assuming it’s in the $5-8 range. So come to Al-Hamraa tonight and check it out!

Also, today is Mother’s Day so remember to call your Mom.

Gosh, either you really hate the Cloud Nothings or you don’t quite get how to use that baseball stat thinger.
