Thank You at the Tea Bazaar, Invisible Hand and more on WTJU

The Baltimore band Thank You are playing at the Tea Bazaar tonight; they’re a band that’s only come onto my radar recently, but I really like the EP they just put out (sample song here); plus they’re on Thrill Jockey, who tend to put out great stuff, so if you have any hesitations about tonight’s show being great, maybe that will sway your favor. They’re playing along with Caleb L’etiole’s new band Grammar (who used to be called “Stolen Arms,” and feature former members of St. Gods Hospital) and a fellow from NY named Darwin Deez. That starts around 9pm at the Tea Bazaar, and the cover charge is $7. (also, congrats to Matt Ulibarri for winning our ticket giveaway!)

… speaking of Thrill Jockey, the WTJU Rock Marathon is currently right in the middle of a three-hour tribute to that label; there’s plenty more good stuff coming up on the marathon today (and later this week), including a show about Ye Ye Girls at Noon, a tribute to Matador Records from 2 to 4pm, Professor Bebop doing a showcase of Dylan Covers at 5pm, a Live Performance by The Invisible Hand at 7:00, and lots more (Flying Nun, Chiptune, Russian Industrial Music, songs about Werewolves and Vampires, etc) throughout the night (and throughout the week) — if you’re looking for something to do while pre-gaming for tonight’s show, you could do a lot worse than to tune in (and donate!).

Sadly my ability to participate in (and even listen to) the Rock Marathon has been pretty much hampered by some sort of horrible throat-shredding, skull-crushing illness I’ve been fighting off since Sunday; nevertheless, today is my day of rest to fully recover, and I’ll be doing several shows on the marathon tomorrow — “Moog in the Morning” and “Songs About Girls,” as well as answering phones for “Rock Sax vs Rock Flute,” hosting the live Andrew Cedermark peformance, and co-hosting the Krautrock show; definitely looking forward to playing more great songs on-air and hearing from some of you readers / listeners!

{PS you may have heard something about a DBB plays cups show tonight; it’s been re-scheduled for tomorrow.}

    James you are a machine. Thank you for your rock marathon marathon! WTJU wouldn’t be the same without you and your musical opinions (Solar Anus, anyone?)
