Music Meeting at Random Row, Hand Video Shoot

January 30th, 2011 · 7 Comments · By

A couple noteworthy music-related happenings in town tonight, which everyone is highly encouraged to attend.

First, at Random Row, there’s a community forum to discuss the recent zoning developments impacting live music in Charlottesville. It’s a big opportunity not only to learn more about the ordinances in question and discuss some potential solutions, but also for the music community to give feedback and get more involved. We believe that Mayor Norris, Jim Tolbert (of Neighborhood Development Services), and perhaps some other council members will be in attendance, so it’d be great if lots of music lovers, musicians, and business owners came out to show how important this is to us. If this all sounds kinda vague, just know that this is an important opportunity for those of us who love live music and Charlottesville’s small and unconventional venues to shape the discussion going forward and not let others do it for us. That’s set to start at 7PM.

Next, starting at 9PM at DUST, the Invisible Hand are shooting a music video for their song Two Chords and apparently need a big crowd of people to star in it. Here’s the agenda for that meeting, according to Jon Bray:

1. Form large shapes such as squares and circles!
2. Some Moses “part the seas” type of shit!
3. Human snake type of shit
4. more large shapes!
5. Trust Falls?
6. Concentric Circles! like, that shit where one circles going one way, and another circles going the other way… you know! trippy shit!
7. Possible make-out situations — srsly.
9. Maybe some hip-hop dancing type of shit
10. getting on the floor and acting like assholes

fun, right??? also, if you any of you have a blanket, flip cam, and/or smart phone, then bring that shit with you! Not really sure why yet, but we talked about it, and it sounds like a good idea.

We’ll try to keep the Random Row meeting running on time so that anybody wanting to hit up the Hand video shoot can do so. Hope to see you all at both events!

You mean droll talk about municipal code? Well, I mean, I guess we could do — Oh, wait, you’re talking about the rolling around on the ground and Bernie dancing and shit! Yeah, that should definitely happen!

I couldn’t make it to but I am curious what the outcomes of the meeting were.

Matt, there was no specific outcome on Sunday. That’ll come later after the Planning Commission meeting in March and subsequent City Council meetings. Sunday was great though in terms of educating people about the issue and giving everybody an opportunity to ask questions and contribute their thoughts. Jim Tolbert took a bunch of questions, which was helpful and informative. We’ll have complete audio of the meeting up in the next 24 hours or so.
