Kyp Malone and Jolie Holland are here tomorrow – win tix

Kyp Malone @ the Bridge – 3/5/09 (photo by Rob Froetscher)

Kyp Malone, whose last time performing in town was almost two years ago, is back in Charlottesville at the Southern tomorrow. $12 tickets ($15 at the door) are still on sale. His show at the Bridge in the beginning of 2009 was the first time I heard his wild, sprawling songs and his even crazier voice away from the fray of that other band he is in. (Also, does anyone remember the wasted dude playing banjo with him? Zach? Will he return?)

Also on the bill is another Charlottesville repeat offender, Jolie Holland. She was last here at Fry’s Spring Beach Club in 2009. Her 2008 album, The Living and the Dead has songs on it as good as “Mexico City.”  If you need more convincing, she pals around with the likes of Will Oldham (he was accompanying her on that 2009 tour, though he wasn’t at the Fry’s Spring show) and Tom Waits.

Anyhow, we have a pair of tickets to giveaway, so send an email to with the subject line “Kyp Malone” and your full name in the body of the e-mail, and we’ll contact the winner by 5pm tomorrow!

Also, after this, there is a late show at the Box featuring a Christian Breeden project and the launch of the Dixie Licks, comprised of (among others) some former Falsies.

I think it’s the launch anyway. I may have that wrong.

you can also win tix to this same show here (Andy Gems says as of 1:45pm that it’s still on, plus they were due at WNRN(?) at 2pm) if you want to double your chances.

    Fun times.

Thanks for the tix, Nailgun! Kyp such an awesome and nice dude. Plus, there were cookies. Good ones.

Dixie Licks were also sweet. Liz auctioned off her shirt. Literally.

I used to see this dude every other day when I lived in Brooklyn. That is all.

Good to see you last night Matt – and thanks Nailgun for hooking it up.

Kyp was an absolute sweetheart and was badass on the stage!

And man oh man, those cookies were GOOD!

I also have to 2nd the sweetness on the Dixie Licks – good times!
