Shows tonight

Yikes! There’s a lot going on this week, but not much on the blog (thus far); I know Jacob’s working on a post about Tuesday night’s City Council meeting… but in the meantime, here’s what concerts are coming up tonight:

There’s yet another good-lookin’ show at the Magnolia House, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in town (now that they finally seem to have their shit together). Corsair are a band you’re probably familiar with by now, and the Demon Beat seem like a logical band to share the bill, since it appears they do a similar / comparable brand of retro 70’s hard rock / proto-Metal type thing.  I’m also really excited that Max Katz is on the bill, playing her solo project Miami Nights; y’all remember Max from back when she played in Red Wizard, right? Well her solo stuff is equally awesome, a one-woman wall of impossibly heavy doom metal howl.  I have no idea what time that starts (‘cuz Dylan never tells me this stuff), but a reader informs me that the cover cost is $5.

Over at The Box, you can hear Hunter Smith and the Dead Men, playing piano-based power-pop/rock ballads, along with a band called Long Arms who are impossible to google, and Brad Perry doing his DJ Nano schtick (aka playing fun party songs off an iPod). That starts at 10:30 and there is no cover, although it’s a 21+ show because it’s happening in a bar.

Those are the notable events tonight that I’m aware of; stay tuned for more (write-ups for the weekend, a summary of the City Council stuff, etc).

I’m just DJ Nano’s manager, James. He’s really touchy about it…hope he doesn’t see this.
