Tea Bazaar and Magnolia

So a couple notable Saturday night events: first there’s a couple sick touring bands at the Tea Bazaar. The headliner is from Montreal and they are called Suuns (pronounced “soons”). They sound a little like Can or Clinic — really sparse drony goodness. They’re on tour with a band from Seattle called The Globes, who are mining a similar vein. That’s $7, 9PM.

Meanwhile, down at that top secret show house called Magnolia, there’s four bands: Long Division, The Ha-Rang, Gun It, and Omelet. Long Division, from Norfolk, probably would’ve fit well on the Tea House bill being, likewise, drony indie-rock. Tonight is apparently the debut of The Ha-Rang, which is a band featuring among others Greg and Shane of The Standard Dance Revue. Don’t know anything about the other bands other than Dylan says Gun It is “C-ville nihilist surf” and Omelet is from Atlanta. Don’t know what time that is, but presumably it’s┬ádonation based, so bring a couple bucks for the touring groups.

Have a fun Saturday night!

the ha-rang ruled. i was a little late to the party per usual but the line up is thusly: greg sloan on drums, shane on lead guitar, jessica shade on organ, tom daly on bass, that hippie dude lester wigging out with the vocals. slow-tempo’d and quirky, they were kind of punk without playing at the speed of punk. definitely fun to watch and the rhythm section was fantastic. also who doesn’t love a foxy lady on the chord organ?

No Painted Face show mentioning for Saturday? I guess you’ll wait to tomorrow to post it.
