Caribou cancelled; go see Fuck Buttons

Due to an injury, Caribou WILL NOT be playing Satellite Ballroom tonight.

However, you should still definitely go see the opening act Fuck Buttons. They’re a duo from the UK (clearly named with an eye for mainstream appeal) whose electronic noise-scapes have been earning them comparisons to Growing and Black Dice. I haven’t managed to check out their CD yet myself, but I’m eager to find out what they’re all about. They’re still playing at the Satellite, and for only $6.

These guys are still playing tonight! (hopefully sans horse…)

I’ll be there for sure, but I’m disappointed to be missing Caribou, since I also missed their last apparance(s) in town. I’ve been following Dan Snaith’s career since his days as Manitoba, and it’s been really interesting to follow his progression from competent-but-unmemorable pleasantronica (2001’s “Start Breaking My Heart”) to electronically-flavored psychedelia (“Up in Flames,” 2003) to sample-heavy neo-krautrock (2004’s astonishing “Milk of Human Kindness”) to his most recent record, which borrows heavily from late-60’s California soft-rock (last year’s “Andorra”). Anyhow, Caribou is excellent, and it’s too bad they had to cancel their apparance at the show tonight. Let’s hope the injured party makes a speedy recovery.

(you should get this album immediately)

The show turned out nice. A decent amount of people showed up and Fuck Buttons brought the pulsing and the loudness and the fun.
