“Dogtooth” at OFFscreen, then lots of DJ-ing

If you haven’t seen it yet, OFFscreen‘s schedule for the fall is now up; they’ve got some some great-looking films coming up (plus they’ve actually, you know, announced a schedule, which is helpful). Tonight’s film “Dogtooth,” a contemporary feature from Greece, is supposed to be really good; I believe the plot involves a father who raises his daughters to believe that there is no world outside of their house & yard; presumably some critique of home-schooling and/or patriarchy is involved. Critics have compared it to a slightly less upsetting Michael Haneke; definitely seems to be worth checking out. That’s at both 7pm and 9:30 over at Newcomb Hall; the cost is a mere $3, for free for members (which is worthwhile if you’re trying to see a few of their films this semester, which I recommend).

After that, my good friend Patrick A Reed will be doing a DJ gig at Camino (the restaurant next to Vinegar Hill Theatre). He’s done this before, the last time he was in town, and it went pretty well; old-school soul, funk, and ska, and occasionally some early-90’s hip-hop. Not really a dance party or anything, but a nice opportunity grab a cocktail or an import beer and enjoy some good tunes (I should also mention that many of Camino’s appetizers are straight-up delicious, I end up snacking on them all the time since I work right next door). There’s no cover, of course, and goes from about 10pm to 12:30-ish…

… after which Patrick and I will head over to WTJU, where he’ll be the guest on my weekly radio show from 1-3am. Patrick was a WTJU DJ for quite a while in the late 90’s, so it’s cool to have him back on the air; I have absolutely no idea what we’re going to play, but it should be fun. Tune in to 91.1FM tonight, if you’re up late enough — or listen to it later via the WTJU tape vault!
