Titus Andronicus, Drunk Tigers, and Free Energy at the Jefferson

September 22nd, 2010 · 5 Comments · By

The much-beloved New Jerseyites Titus Andronicus are returning to Charlottesville tonight! They’ve now grown successful enough to headline a show at the Jefferson Theater; here’s a clip of the show they did at the Southern about a year ago:

They’re on tour with a group called Free Energy, and Charlottesville’s own hard-workin,’ hard-drinkin’ rockers Drunk Tigers are opening up.  I should note that this is probably the biggest gig the Tigers have played (at least here in town), and — barring their appearance at the Tea Bazaar in October — might be one of their last ones for a while. So it’ll definitely be worth your while to show up early.

The doors open at 8:00pm, and day-of tickets are a whopping $14. Aaaaaand… we give our hearty congratulations to Amanda Phillips, winner of our ticket giveaway for the show; enjoy it!

Why are Drunk Tigers not playing for awhile after October? I’ve been out of town, and thus out of the loop…

don’t intend to speak on behalf of the group, but Zach is maybe possibly soon/already(?) moving to DC, meaning fewer rehearsals here, thus fewer shows, etc. it’s not the end of the band — not that I’m aware of, at least — but it’s my understanding that it’s pretty unlikely they’ll be playing a cville gig every 2 or 3 weeks like they once were.

any Tigers feel free to step in if I’m incorrect and/or overstepping my bounds…

Zach is actually living in geosynchronous orbit in a blog comment thread somewhere in the skies above Puerto Rico. But that’s not what’s important here … Drunk Tigers actually has two upcoming shows:

    * Friday, Oct. 1 @ the Tea Bazaar with Title Tracks – the band on Dischord fronted by the former Q And Not U co-songwriter John Davis

    * Wednesday, Oct. 13 @ The Box with Wild Wild Geese – another fine Odessa records band from Chapel Hill composed of members of Americans in France, Toddlers, Rongo Rongo and Spider Bags. After their release show at home, this is gonna be their first stop on a tour in support of their debut full-length.

Also, thank you to all the nice folks who showed up early and caught us play last night. As much as James says we are best heard in small, crowded, party bars, playing on that big stage was super fun.
