Killer Fall Kickoff at Tea Bazaar

Well, it’s about 5:30AM, and I’m only half delirious and attempting to decompress after my first night behind the bar at The Box — really, tip your bartenders, cause that shit is more taxing than it looks! Anyway, I might as well take this eyeballs-still-glued-open moment to write up tonight’s big show — the first of twelve days straight of wildly excellent shows at the Tea Bazaar and a harbinger of the many amazing bands coming to town this season.

To the point: There’s an outstanding show at ye olde Tea Bazaar tonight. It’s sort of hard to imagine The Invisible Hand and Cinnamon Band just being the opening acts for almost any show in town these days, but this is that kind of show. Philadelphia’s The War On Drugs are headlining, and with good reason. They play infectious quick-shuffling shoegazey rock numbers, owing as much to Neil Young as My Bloody Valentine. It’s riffy and gorgeous and heavily atmospheric — so yeah, solid jams!

Of course if you’re reading this then you know The Invisible Hand by now. Charlottesville’s tightest rock band. Did you see this vid from the other day? To be honest, I think they’re like experientially even 23 times more amazing in a stuffy dark rock club at fucking night, but this is already so great that that should just be considered a huge compliment. From the WTJU amphitheater show:

And then opening up the night is one of my favoritest favorite bands in Virginia. These guys are just so solid, it’s kind of ridiculous. They are called The Cinnamon Band and they rule. I’m fading fast now, so if you don’t know what I mean, just do yourself a favor and show up round about 9PM tonight at the Tea Bazaar. The cover is $7.

This is just the beginning. So very many good shows coming up!

Teahouse show looks great – just a heads up that Richard Buckner is playing the Southern tonight as well. Lots of choices for a Tuesday!

oh yeah! I knew that was happening, but forgot the date, since the Southern stopped sending us their calendar updates… it’s been added to the side-bar & posted in yesterdays write-up. thanks!

… on the folkier note, I’ve just heard that the Don’t Tell Darlings had to cancel tonight’s Blue Moon Diner gig due to a sore throat; instead there’s gonna be a set from something called the International Jug Cartel (har har) which I believe features Gus who used to be in Accordion Death Squad! that’s most likely from 8 to 10-ish and definitely free

I also have about 2 min of video of Thomas D, Sarah C, and Jacob W. playing frisbee at the Amphitheatre. What to do with it?
