apropos of really rad shit

There’s a six member all-girl, all-vinyl DJ collective based in Richmond going by the name of Cherry Bomb. I came across them last December when I received an invitation to their highly lauded Rock and Shop event. I wasn’t able to attend but the idea of a girl-comprised unit who both works the craft fair circuit and collects records hit pretty close to home. Noting the rare encounter with star-crossed souls, I’ve been keeping tabs on the Cherry Bomb schedule. I’m tempted to drive to RVA for their monthly gig at Cous Cous this upcoming Saturday (March 27) to finally catch their set. You can read more about Cherry Bomb in this profile written by my Richmond-via-Lynchburg pal P.J. Sykes.

Still, I don’t really need to drive all the way to RVA to get my fix. Thomas and Adam have a similarly awesome waxstatic thing going on here in town with The Lunatic and the Rascal. Blair Amberly, owner of Speakertree Records in Lynchburg (basically the cutest little record shop ever), also spins vinyl exclusively. He’s actually DJing tomorrow night after Joanna Newsom plucks your heartstrings at The Jefferson. Expect more on that tomorrow.

Cherry Bomb sounds awesome! Too bad I won’t be able to go to RVA this Saturday.

But we (Grapefruit Experiment) will be playing with Caustic Castle (again!) at a duck pin bowling alley on the at a benefit show for The Richmond Reproductive Freedom Project the following Saturday. More girl power!!
