we now have a twitter and other news

For those who take issue with the tardiness of the blog posts here: we now have a twitter! You can get succinct, timely updates at http://www.twitter.com/nailgunmedia. While setting it up, I came across Gary Canino’s page, which includes video footage of shows here in Charlottesville. You can check those out here.

In other news, I’ve been working on starting a record label. I am perfectly aware this is the cause du jour and it seems everyone + their mom is starting one (unfortunately my mom is definitely not cool with this.) However, you must have a label if you are to put out an album.  Which is what I have done. Can you believe that I have 300 Order 12” in my possession? Might I add that Order has been around for nearly ten years and this is their first full-length.  Keep your ear to the ground for more information on a release party in April.

As far as tonight goes, Gull returns with one-man-band compatriot Matt Kurz One. Gull consists of a masked Nate Rappole (Snack Truck/Ultra Dolphins) simultaneously drumming, playing guitar, and singing. I suppose he wears the mask to hide some potentially embarrassing facial expressions that result from the strain of trying to do three intricate tasks at once. Matt Kurz One of Athens, GA is very similar but he also plays bass…with his foot if I recall correctly. C-Ville homeboy Dylan Mulshine aka Rhythm Bandit, who played at The Bridge on Thursday, plays again tonight. This show kind of happened last October with a remarkable Great Dads set in lieu of Rhythm Bandit. Nate joined Great Dads for a wild, impromptu musical analog of a flashing strobe light. Hopefully something similar transpires tonight. Deets: The Box,  10:30, no cover, 21+ (with the exception of babyfaced Dylan himself.)

yay for twitter! i’m a-gonna have to learn how to twoot. (& we’re gonna get it more well-integrated with the main site soon)

also, GULL is definitely not to be missed! Nate is a sweet guy, you are probably well aware of his musical pedigree if you have seen Snack Truck or U-Dolphins, but seriously his solo shit rocks so hard — especially in stark contrast w/ M. Kurz, who basically has little to offer outside of his (admittedly impressive) multi-instrumental gimmick.

oh, and Dylan’s stuff keeps getting better every time I see him. looking forward to tonight’s set for sure.

yo, so I’m still figuring out how to tweeet from my phone (which is probably for the best; training wheels etc) BUT if i could have I would have said: GULL at the Box! OMG!!!! also Rhythm Bandit was refreshingly unprecedented and solid. the part where they jammed together at the end (like, 10mins after last call) was pretty cathartically satisfying, i.e. it made my whole nonfunctional day/month somehow retroactively worthwhile.

hell, that’s probably more than the tweet-permitted characters. i’m gonna have to resort to some abbrieviatied-ass JF gibberish…. results may vary, but I anticipate I’m gon’ enjoy it………

also, Coleman; is that business for serious that you are in S. Korea for 1 year?

man, if so — cool for you, but it is gonna be a bummer not having your positive excellence vibes here in town.
