Half a decade

Hey folks. I just wanted to chime in and mention that today marks the fifth anniversary of Nailgun. Thanks to James and the rest of the crew for taking over the reigns after I left town. Thanks to all of you readers and friends, without whom this site wouldn’t still be around. And, of course, thanks to everyone who makes music in Charlottesville. It’s a place like no other.

As a little treat, I’ve finally uploaded the video from when was featured as “Blog of the Week” on CBS19. Take a look:

    sweet! thanks John. I never actually saw that one, glad to finally be catching up (many months later) …& it’s taped off the Tee-Vee, too! {yay re-scan!}

anyway, I’m thrilled that us in-the-know youngsters, who are so plugged in to what’s cool right now, have been able to bring y’all up-to-date van-breakdown reportage for a grand ol’ Five Years! (also I’m immeasurably amused that the cinematic language for “guy looking at the internet” hasn’t changed much since “The Net” starring Sandra Bullock c. 1995…)

cultural gaps aside, I’m grateful for their kind attention. Our new slogan should be “Nailgun Media: It’s a Real-Time Thing!”

Everyone in this town owes you some wood.

I’ve eaten some fine meals on that red table.

My favorite dialogue from the clip (paraphrasing here):

News Anchor dude: “Do a lot of people use Nailgun?”

Reporter: “Yes, a lot. A lot of the same people.”

I painted that picnic table way back when in ’05… glad to know that it is still serving up the populace! And yeah, Nailgun, you are awesome, you are always a part of my morning brekkie routine and that is the best part of my day.

… all flippancy aside, I’d like to also take the time to thank a one mssr. John Ruscher, without whom this blog would not exist. also Tom Benner, who helped build a lot of the technical parts of the site, and frequently swoops in heroically behind the scenes to fix some kind of computer thing I don’t understand — also I got to holler at my fellow writers former and current, including John Bylander, Sarah Carr, Jacob Wolf, Michael Babus, and sometimes even Andrew Cedermark and/or Dominic DeVito. you guys are all awesome and are all representative of what is awesome about music in this town.

How about a big 5 year celebration party!

  • 10 Jacob // Jan 26, 2010 at 11:19 pm

I was interviewed for the piece as well, but apparently that wasn’t as compelling as just showing me blogging… oh, wait, I’m not even actually blogging in that shot, I’m on Facebook!

  • 11 Jacob // Jan 26, 2010 at 11:30 pm

Matt: I dig. Think I’ll have to start working on that.

  • 12 James // Jan 27, 2010 at 2:44 pm

yeah, that Party idea is not a bad idea a-tall…. the only question is, where when and how?

  • 13 James // Jan 27, 2010 at 2:50 pm

I like how they don’t even mention our URL in that clip.

  • 14 nick // Jan 27, 2010 at 10:56 pm

james at 2:50pm: that shit is hilarious.

a nailgun party would be rad! dress up as your favorite nailgun metaphor! or, not!

    anyway, congratulations, gunners!
