Drunk Tigers, then a dance party after-party

Drunk Tigers are playing at the Tea House tonight!

{Sweet poster, Mike!} They’re playing with Eternal Summers and Roofwalkers, neither one of which I know much about… but anyway, Drunk Tigers and always fun, and it’s been a while since I enjoyed a good weekend night at the Tea House with some rock bands I’ve never heard of. That one’s at 9-ish, and I’m assuming the cover is in the $5 range.

After that, some folks from the Tea House are apparently throwing a Dance Party over at Random Row … I’m pretty sure Lun, Ali, and Jody put it together, although I have no idea who’s actually DJing it. (You guys gotta start remembering to tell me about this stuff beforehand! my email is in the upper left corner.)  That one’s starting at 10pm, but going til 2am, so I think the plan is for everyone tom migrate over there after the Tea House gig ends at Midnight. I have no idea if there’s a cover or not.

Oh yeah, and there’s a Cheap Trick tribute band at the Jefferson! Oh, wait, that’s actually Cheap Trick themselves. (But, you know, which the way the Jefferson calendar has been looking recently, it’s easy to get confused…)

Actually, I used to make fun of Cheap Trick a lot when I was younger, just cause they seemed really cheesy and outdated, and there was all that shit with the five-necked guitar or whatever. But recently I’ve had to admit that “Surrender” is actually a totally awesome song. And, you know, “I Want You to Want Me” is pretty good too.  So, I guess Cheap Trick are actually pretty OK in my book. But why spend your evening spending a lot of money to see a lot of old rock dinosaurs when you can instead spend a reasonable amount and see… um, some young rock dinosaurs! and then go dance like a dinosaur in an old mechanic’s garage that is now an awesome venue and bookstore!

On a more positive note, the Jefferson’s next-door taco/burrito joint is now open for business, and apparently they’re planning on staying open until 2am every night the Jefferson has a show! Fuck yeah! I don’t know if they’re actually gonna stick to that 2am promise, but at the very least it now looks like they’re staying open until the post-show crowd leaves… I stopped by last night and had a solid chicken burrito and a big fat beer in-between the Horsefang show and Bingo night, and I wholeheartedly welcome a place on the mall where you can get something to eat after, like 8pm on a weeknight.

we’re in the middle of a killer early show with Andy Friedman over at the Southern. $6 ticket and Andy is amazing.

Brian Patrick for a late show with the Rogan Brothers and Carl and Carleigh opening.

Our kitchen is open as well and stay tuned for us to start doing a full menu until 2am on the weekends – I love a killer burrito as much as the next guy, but another food option ain’t a bad thing!

BTW – the late show is venue only, so the bar and kitchen are open to the public.

I can verify this information firsthand. I have eaten two Hot Dogs at the Southern, and they were both good Hot Dogs.

Either way, it’s great to have some post-midnight options that are wider than the old “should I go all the way over to LittleJohn’s, or just eat toast at home” dichotomy. I’ve always said that the meal between 11pm and 3am is the most important meal of the day.

    How ’bout them Eternal Summers!

yeah, those guys were fucking great! awesomely charming low-fi jangle-pop greatness. & they totally called me out for singing along with their Paul McCartney cover.

also — sweet Drunk Tigers show! it seemed significant to realize that this band now sounds strange withOUT a bass player… still, a hugely solid and fun set. (& thanks for playing “Surrender”!)

also, that Dance Party at Random Row was SUPER-fun, easily the most fun I’ve had at an event organized by those folks and/or in that space… I’m still not sure precisely what combination of factors made it so (rollerskates, hula-hoops and balloons? the fact that I was pretty wasted? general good cheer & fun-time atmosphere? all of the above?), but that was one of the funnest things I’ve done all year!

many thanks to everyone who helped make Friday night awesome.
