24Hr Shakespeare: Richard III at The Southern tonight!

Got a message from my good friend Jones last night, letting me know that he will be playing the title role of Richard III in a “24-Hr Shakespeare” production at The Southern tonight. I’ve never heard of 24 Hour Shakespeare, but the premise sounds awesome: “11 Actors, 33 Characters, 1795 Lines, 24 Hours to Rehearse.” I’m reminded more than a little of the Reduced Shakespeare Company, whose motto is “All 37 Plays in 97 Minutes” — in fact, as a young man I once had the pleasure of seeing the original cast of said Company perform this in actual England, which was awesome. But anyway, about tonight:

Jones is an awesome guy and a brilliant comedian, puppeteer, musician, and cartoonist, who has lived in Charlottesville on-and-off since childhood. I’m excited about the prospect of seeing him play Richard III.  Other things that make this sound awesome: the Admission Price is Pay-What-You-Can After the Show, with a 1 Drink Minimum. There is also a Richard III Drinking Game, whose rules can be found on Jones’ website (along with a frankly quite terrifying trailer). Despite having only a somewhat-fitting 24hrs notice about this show, I’m really and truly psyched about seeing it; my only difficult decision is whether to attend the 8pm show or the 11pm one.
