wintertime tunes that you can hear from home

I have more snow-inspired songs for you tonight, but these ones you can hear without leaving the comfort of your house.  I will be on WTJU from 11pm to 3am tonight, playing snow-appropriate music {assuming I can actually get to the station… I borrowed my parent’s station wagon b/c my car is buried under a veritable mountain of snow, far from anything resembling an actual passable street.}

Anyway, you can expect to hear tunes by Mogwai, Greg Davis, Alec Empire, Louis Armstrong, Devo, Birchville Cat Motel, Windy & Carl, Colleen, Terry Riley, Fennesz, and of course Snowbringer Cult. Maybe even some black metal stuff, since they all have songs about the purity of the frozen north, bloodstained snow, etc.  But mostly it’ll be pretty, instrumental, tinkling and chiming sounds, with some charming jazz standards thrown in for good measure.  That’s 91.1 FM from Charlottesville, or you can attempt to listen online at wtju.net. Wish me luck!

    thanks Emily! the show was fun, although I barely got to the station (250 was basically a sheet of chunky ice) … the playlist is up on the WTJU blog here:

    I fully intended to do an X-Mas show on the 23rd, but actually ended up misunderstanding whose time-slot I was supposed to sub in for and ended up being a no-show — which makes me a total, total asshole. I guess I’ll have to save those Xmas songs for next year…
