Two Great Monday Night Shows

November 23rd, 2009 · 4 Comments · By

There’s two really solid shows tonight as everyone presumably prepares to go dormant for a few days. First up, at the Tea Bazaar, all the way from Sweden come Little Dragon. It’s moody electronic/dance music with great smoky lead vocals by frontwoman Yukimi Nagano. Listen to at least that first song on their Myspace cause it’s catchy as hell. Opening up are Charlottesville’s best in electronic/dance music: Bear War and Centric. ‘Doors’ are at 7:30 and it’s a $10 bill (if that for any reason sounds steep, keep in mind, they’re from Sweden).

This is a Magnus Music Production, originally intended for Is and then Outback before both venues fell apart, so I would definitely expect some beefier sound and lighting than your usual Tea House gig. If you missed the Phosphorescent show at the Tea Bazaar, I can tell you that Jeyon really pulls out all the stops on the production end and it makes quite an impressive difference.

Meanwhile, Sarah has booked herself a doozy of a show at The Box: Cinnamon Band, Drunk Tigers, and Hot Lava. I think that bill would actually do pretty damn well at The Southern (by which I mean this is a really high caliber line-up), so look for The Box to be unusually hopping tonight. Or at least, it should be, cause I don’t know anything about Hot Lava, but Cinnamon Band is fucking great, and who doesn’t love Drunk Tigers? I’m guessing 10PM? 10:30PM, no cover.

I’ve heard good things about Hot Lava from many people. Partying Rock&Roll from Richmond, apparently…
