The Box Tonight

The Box is hosting two great bands tonight!  The Hilarious Posters, a local band, and Typefighter, from Washington D.C. are playing.  I’ve seen the Hilarious Posters perform several times before and I’m always eager to catch their sets.  Their songs are generally a combo of folksy pop and indie rock which comes off as generic when described but they transcend those typical labels when performing.  All their songs are catchy and enjoyable, so it makes for a very charismatic and fun set.  Judging from Typefighter’s recordings (I’ve never seen them live), they are within a similar vein as the Posters, but with a much heavier folk influence (there was a lot more string picking and strumming, and the songs were fairly light on the percussion).  The vocals are beautiful, at least on their myspace.  I always think that bands sound better live, so I’m looking foward to hearing them!

I realize it’s a Monday but I’ll be there regardless of my morning classes and massive amounts of homework, so you should come check it out too.  There’s no cover (another reasong to go!) and music tends to start late at the Box so shoot for 10:30 pm-11 pm.

Yo, the show tonight turned out even better than I expected. I’m sure Typefighter are a fantastic band, but they didn’t turn up this evening (if I remember correctly, Sara mentioned the lead singer had a cracked molar…that sounds pretty damn awful, I probably would have canceled a show over that one too). Instead, a UVA band called Pompadour played and they were pretty excellent. And the Hilarious Posters were great, but I don’t know what the hell I was thinking when I mentioned folk in the same sentence as them. They are pretty much strictly pop influenced (sorry about that). Definitely a good Monday night
