New Nailgunner

May 31st, 2009 · 13 Comments · By

Hi, I’m a girl named Michael and for some reason (most likely because the creator of Nailgun watched me suffer through some intense poison oak and wanted to cheer me up) it was decided that I would be the newest contributor to Nailgun.  This is the one and only blog I enjoy, so hopefully my posts won’t bring down the readership.

ANYWAYS, for those who don’t know me:  the next time you see a tall, nerdy looking brunette (complete with librarian glasses and bad posture) at a show around Cvegas…it’s probably me so feel free to approach and tell me what a good job I’m doing OR hand deliver hate mail.

Now for pertinent things: tomorrow is Monday, and there are worthwhile shows going on in two different venues.  If you like hip hop and/or happen to be low on cash, head over to the Box for Marqui of the Illville Crew (No cover charge!).  I’ve seen them at the Box before, and their performances are loud, entertaining, and draw an eclectic crowd.  Shows typically get started around 11 pm and last till 2 am at this venue.  Check it out

The Tea Bazaar is hosting three acts: Adam Finchler, David Greenberg, and Your Spirit Animal.  Adam Finchler is an acoustic singer/songwriter with a twisted sense of humor.  David Greenberg pairs his deadpan voice with folksy melodies.  Also, his lyrics are both oddball and totally sincere.  Basically, both these dudes are very weird and very enjoyable.  Your Spirit Animal is a band comprised of UVA students; they sound like a broken down, raw version of My Bloody Valentine (and I mean that in a good way).  Though they’ve had one or two messy performances, overall I think they have plenty of potential and are worth seeing.

Suggestion: Go to both shows!  Check out the Tea Bazaar round 9:30 and stick around for all the performers, then make your way over to the Box for after-midnite hip hop and drinks.  Trust me, it’s a good idea.

I’m really excited that Michael is aboard the Nailgun boat!

I’d like to note, though, that her poison oak run-in occurred after I asked her if she’d like to write on this site, so neither pity nor cheering up was a factor. The invitation was based solely on her way with words and obvious love of music (especially C’ville music). I think it’s pretty easy to see both of these traits in the post above, so, look forward to more sweet contributions from her.

Also, you might recognize Michael from her writings in The Declaration.

also on Monday: they’re showing “the Goonies” at the Paramount, for cheap.

It’s not a very good movie. But it is a whole lot of fun. the 7pm show will be over in time to go see those shows.

What the hell!? Nailgun is being used for the perverse purposes of the dark and tragic world that is Internet personals…we all obviously need to hang out with this doofus sometime in the near future. That is the only solution.

  • 12 sarah // Jun 2, 2009 at 2:35 pm

    WHO is this doofus
and who is he talking about?

also, i think this one happened at my house after the super vacay’s/hand/brains show

can I mention that personals ads are the creepiest things in the world?
