Pokey Lafarge tonight!

Pokey’s back in town tonight; he’s one of my favorite live performers at the moment, and I heartily encourage you to come check out the show.  He’s a contemporary old-time / blues / ragtime / proto-rockabilly performer; he’s based out of Louisville, but tours constantly, and was even a member of the Hackensaw Boys for a brief period of time.

I first discovered Pokey’s music when I wandered into Miller’s about a year and half ago, and his astonishing performance (in a half-empty bar on a Monday) caught me totally unawares. I’ve been sure to catch his act every time he’s been back in town.  Here’s a review I wrote of his last album, and here’s an (unfortunately rather quiet) YouTube clip:

the openers are Carlton James & Co. and the Klymaxx Mt. String Band (which I believe, these days, features Mark Rock of the Falsies on fiddle.)  Don’t miss it!
