Last night’s thing was one of the best times I’ve had so far this year. Who would have guessed that Gravity Lounge, so ill-suited for almost any other use, is a perfect place to have a dance party? Also, how come I never noticed that “Come On Eileen” is totally a disco song? (It’s even got big disco strings on it).

Good to see a crowd out for that one, too. It feels like JD Sampson is the Johnny Appleseed of queer dance parties. Also, playing a Laffy Taffy mash-up of your own band (from before you were even in it!) is some advanced shit.

I was a little worried when almost no one outside of campus knew anything about the show — and I’m still not clear if that was a deliberate decision on the part of the promoters (which would be unfortunate), or merely an oversight because they don’t have a lot of non-UVa connections (which is understandable). Anyhow, like I said: there are plenty of people in town (like myself) who are more than happy to help spread the word and support stuff like this. But it all turned into a fantastic evening, so I suppose it’s water under the bridge at this point. Thumbs up!
