Tuesday: Norwegian Metal & More

March 23rd, 2009 · 3 Comments · By

I’ll be honest, I don’t know much about metal. I don’t dislike it, it’s just not usually my thing. But my understanding is that it’s kind of a big deal in Scandanavia, and thus that’s where a lot of the good stuff is coming from these days. Or maybe that’s just Metalocalypse.

So this brings me to tomorrow, Tuesday night, when a noise-metal band from Oslo, Norway called Årabrot (can anyone tell me how to pronounce that? or how to type that Å without copying and pasting?) will be playing a house show. They sound pretty rocking to my (generally unschooled-in-metal) ear so it oughta be worth checking out. To further sweeten the deal, Scott Ritchie will be doing some noise stuff under the name Myceum and DBB Plays Cups will also perform.  The house in question is at Preston & 10th Street NW, sort of caddy-corner to Outback, where the road splits in two. Things should should kick off at around 9:30.

You type “Å” with option-shift-a, at least on a mac…

Oh, and I’m super-psyched about this show.

PS this is at the same house as the Fucked Up / Ultra Dolphins after-party … that house where Order & Invisible Hand played. (it’s sort of hard to triangulate the exact location from the address… it’s across from McGrady’s)

You’d probably pronounce it “OH-rah-brote” if my admittedly sketchy familiarity with Norwegian serves me right.
