Eartha Kitt and Harold Pinter

We lost another two artists this Christmas;

Eartha Kitt was a deliciously sassy and often campy singer and actress from the 50’s and 60’s; many have remarked that her death on Christmas is somewhat dramatic, considering her well-known 1953 performance of “Santa Baby” … anyhow,  I’ve always really liked her version of “Mink Shmink”:

… and here she is at Catwoman in a 1967 episode of Batman.

Harold Pinter‘s work is a little harder to summarize or pay tribute to via a YouTube clip; nonetheless, he was one of my favorite modern playwrights (I’ve always much preferred him to Beckett). His work alternated wit and cruelty with a post-Brechtian semi-absurdist deconstruction of generic social situations; I highly recommend The Birthday Party. {Bonus Fact: Nick Cave named his first band after it.}
