happy christmas

hello, nailgun readers. i am new around here and i wanted to make my entrance on a laudatory note: pantherburn is one of the best live bands around town these days. they force you to have fun simply because they are (apparently) having such a good time themselves. might i also mention they feature the accordion and violin. i don’t think you can feasibly argue that you have enough accordion and violin in your lives. so, yes, the short of what i am saying is go see pantherburn. you will have fun. i did this past friday and i was working the show. many of you are probably familiar with bassist aaron farrington, who used to bartend ’round these parts and is currently part of the “ready, set, shoot” photography exhibition at the bridge. additionally, lead singer/guitarist phillip st.ours used to be in the hackensaw boys.

on another note, i am going to assume there are a few last minute christmas shoppers out there. well, thankfully for you, elsie garden on the downtown mall near escafe has marked 25% off everything in the store including toms shoes. for every pair you buy, toms donates a pair to a child in need. and your shoe comes complete with literature describing it as “the gift that keeps on giving.” very much in the christmas spirit! i got a pair for my dad, who is also appropriately named tom. it works on so many levels.

lastly, i’m going to echo james and urge you to come to the dbb plays cups and invisible hand show tomorrow night. i know i went on about how great pantherburn is but the invisible hand is really AT LEAST 10 times as great and they don’t even have the added powers of accordion and violin. also, post-college diaspora as it tends to happen made it so dbb rarely gets to play anymore. thus it would be very unwise to miss them. it’s going to be something like a dance party, too, as john ruscher will be djing when the live sets end. we will bunnyhop til the sun comes up.
