Quintron and Truman Sparks tonight / + a DJ night

November 13th, 2008 · 3 Comments · By

Quintron and Miss Pussycat are playing at Outback Lodge tonight, along with Truman Sparks and Class Substitute. It should be a lot of fun. $8 cover, and it should start at like, 10ish maybe?

There’s also a DJ Night at Is (the old Starr Hill space), with DJ Shizo, DJ Phlaves, St/Mic and Colorboy. Jeyon says:  Colorboy is a visual artist. Schizo The DJ is from Richmond. Phlaves is from Lynchburg. And ST/MIC has been hiding in CVille for over a year. Each one claims to conquer. Who are these people? you ask. I really have no idea. But it’s free! And IS has a new banging PA and installed lights. Check that flyer in the upper-right corner.

I hope you people reading this went to that Quintron show last night. If not you need to reconsider this whole “fan of music” thing you’ve got going, unless your idea of being a fan of music means not having fun. You should also find a way to watch Quintron’s infomercial about his self-made musical contraption, the “Drum-Buddy.” Anyone into this whole craft-art revival/basement show/diy lifestyle thing could really find a lot to love in the Quintron/Miss Pussycat world. Go find a Flossy and The Unicorns record for sure. Just ask Danny Shea for a full primer.

wait, so Quintron is the guy from Flossy and the Unicorns? now I feel DOUBLY lame for staying home… still, I do have to sleep SOME time. How was the show?

Miss Pussycat is the main force behind Flossy and the Unicorns, but Quintron does some of the music and perhaps mans some puppets (and contributes voices) for the live incarnation, but, you know, there is a box set up so you don’t really see who works the puppets. Let’s just say they are a duo that share a lot of duties (like hand-making a lot of their merch). Please watch the Drumbuddy informercial, it is extremely heartening (and apparently actually played as an infomercial in select cities around the country). Also check out the amazing Oblivians/Quintron release, a great great great Saturday night rock record. Danny, again, is a great resource for all things Quintron. Congratulations on the new gig.
