Metal at Dust, plus an Outback show tonight

Thanks to everyone who came to the dance party last night. We had a pretty low turnout before midnight (we were competing with the thunderstorm and the Presidential debate) but things picked up later on, and most importantly I think everybody had a lot of fun.

I’ll be back at Dust tonight for the metal show, which should be pretty cool. It’s Gnarwulf from Blacksburg, along with Sangvine and Kiste. {US Christmas were originally supposed to play, but unfortunately they had to cancel.} I think this is only Kiste’s second show; they play unpretentious garage metal and they kick ass. The other bands should be pretty awesome too.  I think we’re starting around 10ish?

There’s also a rock show at Outback: Mas Y Mas and  The Points. Mas Y Mas are from Harrisonburg; I’ve seen them before, and they’re good.

Mystery solved! “Kiste” is spelled “K-I-S-T-E” and means “coffin” in Norwegian. They were, again, quite good.

Jumper KO ended up playing as well, coming over from Blacksburg with Gnarwulf. They were straight-up hardcore punk; it’s always nice to have a non-metal band in a metal show.

Actually, Gnarwulf were far more “punk” and less “metal” than I recalled — and Sanguine was a lot more keyboard-heavy than I remembered… It’s entirely possible that was the first time I’ve seen either of those bands in a state even remotely approaching sobriety.
