I may not be the first person to observe that it’s a little bit warm out today, but it’s true — currently sitting pretty at 98° (“feels like 109,” it says) and supposed to hit 101° at some point this afternoon. You can try to hide from it, you can crank up the AC and chug the lemonade, but no matter what you’re going to be sweating. So if we’re all gonna be delirious and damp no matter what we do, we might as well all get drunk and listen to Rock & Roll (truthfully, that’s my solution to a lot of problems, but that doesn’t mean it’s not the correct one.)
There’s a show at the Tea Bazaar tonight, which marks the debut of a new band of Charlottesville rock old-timers (relatively speaking); GD Airlock features Steve Snider and Mac Matthews and other members of good cville bands of yore like Bride of the Narwhal and War Tempest. They’re playing with two touring bands who have been here before, the Demon Beat, (whom I haven’t heard, but they’re from West Virginia and I think they do a sort of retro-70’s-metal thing), and Elephant Child (whom I have heard, they’re from Harrisonburg, they’re pretty good and they just put out a split cassette with Order). That starts around 9pm, the cover’s $5, and Jacob has just informed me that he does need me to cover this show after all, so I’ll be seeing you tonight and collecting your $5 if you’re coming to the show.
There’s also a show over at the Pigeon Hole with dependable locals Astronomers and a band I’m not familiar with called For Hours and Hours; additionally, Chamomile and Whiskey are playing at the Blue Moon Diner.
Have fun, stay cool, and drink lots of water! (especially if yr drinkin booze)
