There is still more information coming out on this subject but here’s what’s been pieced together so far. After August 14, Magnolia will no longer host house shows, according to Dylan Mulshine who has been running the music programming there for the past several months. He didn’t go into many details, other than saying it’s a complicated situation and he doesn’t want to deal with the drama. I think anyone could tell at a glance it is indeed very difficult and complicated trying to organize such a hefty and varied calendar of music with little help. It takes a lot of time and effort to do such a thing.
Speaking of effort, I think Dylan’s done a great job bringing exciting things to town and I have enjoyed the presence of Magnolia House for the past what…like, two years? It’s had a good run. I’m sad to see it go and part of me hopes this cessation is temporary even though Dylan has indicated it is permanent.
UPDATE from James: many more details have emerged, we should clarify that the Magnolia House definitely WILL still be having shows! There are plenty of other folks there who have been an integral part of putting music together there, and they will continue to do that. It’s just that Dylan will not be booking shows there now (presumably, he will be booking them somewhere else, and/or moving to Cleveland.) We apologize for bringing everyone’s living-situation drama into our music news!
Also, there is in fact a show at Magnolia TONIGHT, with Coughing Fit, Dry Spell, Drug Money, and apparently some sort of collaboration between those last two bands, referred to as Drug Spell. There’s a few upcoming dates on the calendar as well, including one which I’ve just added and one whose info I’ve just corrected. Maurine from Magnolia adds: “We will keep having shows forever”
