Dan Deacon is here TONIGHT – win tix

October 28th, 2010 · 5 Comments · By

UPDATE: Congratulations to our winners, Anthony Gallo and Rebecca Reed.

My main Strong Island man*, Dan Deacon, is playing at the Southern tonight, and we have two pairs of tickets to give away. This will be one of his more traditional shows, where he puts his equipment on the floor and tons of sweaty people crowd around him. That’s why any picture taken at one of his shows look like this:

We’re lucky to have him back on the floor, as he’s spent so long doing everything but that, whether it was his round robin tour with Deerhunter and No Age, or getting a massive ensemble to play songs from his latest album, Bromst. Also, check out his upcoming comedy tour with the Wham City collective that was just announced.

If that isn’t enough incentive to go, the legendary Order and Rhythm Bandit are opening. The last time I saw Order (at the Tea Bazaar a month ago) was the best performance I’ve seen this entire year, without even having to think about it.

Send an e-mail to nailgunmedia@gmail.com with “Dan Deacon” in the subject line, and your full name in the body, and we’ll contact the winners.

* Actually from Long Island.

    am i the only one who thinks pairing the order with dan deacon is really weird? i mean, not that order isn’t good, but this does not compute with me. whatev…it will be sweet regardless.

    on paper I agree it looks weird, but having heard them both live, I think it kinda makes sense… they’re both able to summon CRAZY amounts of energy, live. although the Southern is a space somewhat given to entropy, so we’ll see how that works out tonight… but if there’s even half of the same kind of enthusiasm I saw for the Dope Body set last night, I’m not worried.

    oh also: there’s a Grits & Gravy thing at the Box tonight, in case anyone wants to do some more sweating (this time to Soul music) after the Deacon gig… just a block away, & it’s free.

    Order makes perfect sense – given that we live in a world without sense…did that make any sense?

    and i’d love to get a better idea of what you mean by, “the Southern is a space somewhat given to entropy”?

    personally, i’ve always thought that between entropy and putrefaction, it was proof positive that the world moves in the same direction. not that i can explain what i mean.

    and btw, looks like dope body and dj dog dick are going to happen in some manner tonight. what that manner is, we shall soon find out!
