There’s a show at the Tea Bazaar tonight which should be a lot of fun; the headliners are La Strada; they are, in the words of Jacob: “an orchestral folk-rock group from NYC whose lineup includes violin, cello, and accordion. They’ve played a couple times in town over the last year, including at the late Gravity Lounge with Birdlips, which I recall being a really well-attended show” … I seem to recall it was very well-received, too. They’re kind of the perfect act for the Tea Bazaar, so that will be a great place to catch them tonight.
The openers are The Hill & Wood, who basically have an all-new line-up (Sam and 4 or 5 new folks); they’re trying pretty hard for the mid-60′s Dylan sound, and more or less nailing it, which is great. I caught them at The Garage a little while back and thought it was a great direction for them (him) to be moving in.
Also I’ve just heard from Patrick Costello that there will be a “funny/strange/completely wonderful little dialog-based variety show” added to the bill; they’re some friends of his from out of town, and if you know Patrick and/or his work, you know he likes good stuff. They’ll be going on at 8:30, with the rest of the show to follow; cover for the whole thing is $5. Here’s a great little image for the variety show thing:
