Two House Parties and More!

There are, not one, but TWO swell-lookin’ house parties this evening;

First up, Gary says: “tonight (saturday) is looking like a night of firsts and lasts. at 10pm sharp: Birdshit will be playing first, and it’s their first show. It features members of St. Gods (Caleb L’Etoile) and Buffalo Wild Wing (Kevin Haney). All I was told is that it will be a loud, loud two-piece. I don’t really know much about Robo Jamz, I’ve never actually heard their music before. I hear they’re from here. This is their first show as well. I think this is Bear War‘s last show, or their last show playing these songs in this way for a really long time. You can call it a farewell show if you’d like. and Caninos is last. It’ll be our last show for a long, long time I think. Maybe for the summer or something. It’s at 510 14th St., and BYOB, and free, of course. You can put the address. I want Birdshit to play at 10 sharp, and the other bands will follow.”

It is indeed a night of lasts; for the Raquellos will be playing their last-ever, ever (ever!) show at Jesse Dukes’ house tonight! Several of the band members are moving away; they played a farewell show a month or so ago, but this one will be a more cozy house-party type of thing for friends & fans. That house is downtown, Jesse says: “I’d appreciate it if you didn’t publish the location, but instead direct people to talk to one of us.  Everybody’s welcome–I just don’t want random strangers coming to my house late.” So there you have it; give me or one of the Raquellos a call if you want specific directions (it’s only a few blocks from the mall.) I’ll be DJing at the party after they play, and I think Mark is debuting some sort of mash-up thing as well; we’re in talks with another individual who may be the opener. That starts at 8:30 and goes until it ends!

I really enjoy house parties, and I’m excited that there seem to be some good ones going on so far this spring; however, if you’re looking for something more formalized this evening, there’s an 8-bit Dance Party at the Tea Bazaar. Attendees are encouraged to dress as their favorite Nintendo character; I’m told the mix will include some newfangled “remixes” as well as straight 8bit chiptunes, which to be honest rather offends my purist sensibilities — on the other hand, who else is throwing 8bit dance parties in town? That one should be really fun. It’s from 10pm-2am, and it only costs $3, so that might be a perfect thing to check out later in the night.

Elsewhere in town, Ted Pitney (last seen playing in The Pearls, last night) will be playing at the Blue Moon Diner, presumably in the 8pm-10pm range; that is, of course free as well. Lastly, Trees on Fire are having a CD release party at the Jefferson tonight! Congrats on the CD release, guys.
