Sunday: Mountain Man, Monday: Emperor X

So I’m certain that (almost) none of you have heard of Mountain Man yet, but they’re great and they’re coming to town soon. So, if you’re in a quiet, calm place, and ready to hear some pretty-ass shit, click on the mp3s below. Joanna Newsom and Fleet Foxes are the first influences that pop into my head, but one could probably find more accurate comparisons. Some of you may remember one Mountain Man member, Amelia Meath, as Annelies in the Ribbons of War musical. Anyways, if you dig, they’ll be playing at The Garage on Sunday, June 21st.

[Okay, so I couldn't get the mp3s work -- you'll just have to visit their Myspace or website.]

Likewise, you probably haven’t heard Emperor X. He’s a genius — one of the coolest underground lo-fi recording geeks out there – and he’s playing at The Bridge on Monday, June 22nd. Personally, I’ll admit, his songs often don’t click for me on the first listen, but eventually they always do and are very rewarding.

He is so amazing. “Right to the Rails” will always have a place in my heart as a great, great song. Unfortunately, I’ll be in a different town when he plays! So, c-ville, show him some love.
I played a show with him in NYC where he was the headliner, but his set got cut short because some boring indie pop band (who will remain nameless, but may or may not be on polyvinyl) ran over their time slot. A bunch of fans were bummed, but Chad told everyone to meet him outside the club if they wanted to hear more tunes.
With only an acoustic guitar, melodica and handclaps, he played a 2nd set while marching backwards through Manhattan, and it was amazing.
I think he’ll work really well at the bridge, so don’t miss out!
